Through our work, including program production for international broadcasting, we have been sharing Japanese culture with the world. By introducing Japanese culture abroad and conveying international feedback back to Japan, we have dedicated ourselves to deepening the global understanding of Japanese culture.

Today, Japanese culture is attracting increasing attention and entertaining people all over the world. At the same time, the creators driving this culture are diversifying across borders.

We aim to capture the current landscape of this ever-expanding Japanese culture, produce original content, and contribute to its further development.

Projects & Works

J-FLICKS (NHK WORLD-JAPAN)

(Currently broadcasting Season 13)

This is an English-language Japanese film showcase program that delivers new Japanese films featured at major international film festivals, as well as classic legacies, to the world. Capturing global trends, the program presents a multifaceted appeal of Japanese cinema—from highly anticipated new releases to timeless classics and the introduction of “Katsuben” (silent film narration), a unique Japanese film culture. It features interviews with domestic and international filmmakers, on-site reports, and commentary by leading experts in Japanese film studies. 

Initiated by our company’s original planning, this program has reached its 13th season as of 2026, and we continue to handle its production.

Children of the Sun

(Currently in development)

This is an internationally co-produced art animation designed to nurture children’s sensibilities and zest for life. The project was born through a cross-border collaboration based on the original work by Japanese painter and picture book author Anzu Kanie, Poland-based animation creator Izumi Yoshida, and representative Finnish author Leena Krohn.

The original short story “Children of the Sun” quietly observes loneliness, views on life and death, and connections with others in modern society through the perspective of a 13-year-old girl named Sumire, portraying a poetic tale that leaves a lingering sense of life.

As a work where art meets education, and sensibility meets philosophy, it is currently in development for both children and adults worldwide.

Feature Film “FOUJITA”

(Director: Kohei Oguri, Starring: Joe Odagiri)

Set in France and Japan, this is a Japan-France co-produced feature film depicting the life of Tsuguharu Foujita, a painter active in the first half of the 20th century. Foujita fused the traditional sensibilities and delicate line work of Japanese painting with Western painting techniques, becoming an internationally renowned artist representing the “École de Paris” in 1920s Paris.

His unique expression and cross-cultural journey embody the image of a “border-crossing artist” that resonates today, aligning with the international co-production approach of this film. Our representative, Sho Hirasawa, served as the planning producer for this film, which was officially screened in the Competition section of the 2015 Tokyo International Film Festival.

David Suzuki: Force of Nature (Japanese Version)

This documentary centers on the “Legacy Lecture” given by David Suzuki, a third-generation Japanese-Canadian biologist and environmental activist, at the University of British Columbia. Reflecting on his roots and life, he appeals to modern society to reconsider the relationship between nature and humanity. In 2010, the film won the People’s Choice Award in the Documentary category at the Toronto International Film Festival.

For the Japanese version produced by our company, we handled the subtitle production, placing high importance on the accuracy of the scientific messages and a deep understanding of the cultural background.

Great Gear (NHK WORLD)

(Broadcast ended in 2020)

This was an informational program showcasing products and services with outstanding design, technology, and environmental performance born from unique Japanese ideas and skills. Covering a wide range of genres, the program introduced unique and fascinating products and technologies as the “Very Best of Made in Japan” to the world. It closely followed the manufacturing scenes where tradition and cutting-edge technology merge, focusing on the spirit and way of life of the people involved.

Although the program ended in 2020, it consistently conveyed the appeal of diverse Japanese products and the people behind them from an international perspective.

Sho Hirasawa

Representative / Producer, Eterna Pictures Inc.

In 1991, Sho Hirasawa began his career in international media as part of the launch staff for STAR TV (Hong Kong), Asia’s first international satellite broadcasting station. He produced numerous programs introducing Japanese popular music across Asia.

In 2004, he established Eterna Pictures.

In 2009, he became the first Japanese producer to be selected for and join ACE (Ateliers du Cinéma Européen), a European film producer training and networking organization, building a framework for co-productions with Europe.

In 2015, he was involved in the launch of the feature film “FOUJITA” (directed by Kohei Oguri), screened in the Competition section of the Tokyo International Film Festival, as the planning producer. Through this, he laid the foundation for project development through a Japan-France co-production.

Currently, he serves as the program producer for the Japanese film showcase program “J-FLICKS” on NHK WORLD-JAPAN, continuing to promote Japanese culture internationally as the program enters its 12th season in 2025.
